WHY REGISTER WITH THE CKC AND NOT THE AKC?
While people could argue for either, we personally do not believe that titles affect bloodlines. AKC dog shows are judged by people based on opinion and not necessarily with measurable data. Title doesn't equal quality. Unfortunately many people have been led to believe this misinformation.
The AKC has also many times made choices that put their name and profit over the well being of animals. For those reasons, we chose to register with the CKC.
HOW DO YOU VET FAMILIES?
We have a Facetime interview process. We find that online applications don't allow breeders and families to get to know each other. We want to have a face to face conversation with every family that wants to adopt our puppies. We want to show you where they live, meet the parents, ask questions, get to know you and to see where the puppies will be living. If the family is a right fit, we allow families to pick the puppy they want and will email our contract to them at that point.
WHY DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA FOR BREEDING RIGHTS?
We believe in bettering the breed and insist on a series of health and breed specific tests from one of the world's leading commercial canine testing labs. To that end we can assure that your new friend is free of any genetic health problems.
Not every family wants to breed. They want a pet to love on only but they also want a quality puppy to add to their family. So we allow for limited rights to those families at a discounted rate.
DO YOU REQUIRE DEPOSITS?
We REQUIRE a $200 deposit. Only after a Facetime interview and a sign contract is returned to White River Valley Kennel. All deposits are non-refundable unless refusal of sale occurs. Deposits are transferable 1 time.
WHY DO YOU MICROCHIP YOUR PUPPIES?
Unfortunately the world is not always a perfect place. Shelters do not always have the means to care for lost dogs. We never want to see any dog end up in a kill shelter. Microchipping them saves them from this happening if the dog is ever lost or abandoned. White River Valley Kennel takes life long responsibility for our puppies. We stay primary contact on all of our puppies, families are listed as secondary. This provides every puppy a safety net to last a lifetime.
DO YOU ALLOW HOME VISITS?
No, we do not. For the health and safety of our children, dogs and puppies we don't allow home visits. Like most families we have full lives with children, work, caring for our dogs and puppies. We will send pictures, videos, post on our Facebook page every other day or so and will even facetime every family so they can see their puppy in real time.
DO YOU DNA TEST?
Absolutely! Again we breed for betterment of the breed and to do this we utilize genetic and health tests.
DO YOU SHIP?
No. We do not ship our puppies.
Options:
Pick up radius: We do not charge families for picking up their puppy. We have a radius of 90 miles from Corbin, KY. That will take us as far north as Lexington, KY and a far south as Knoxville, TN.
Flying in:
We can & will meet families at the Knoxville and Lexington Airports so they can fly home with their sweet little babies. We ask if families decide to fly in that they make all of the arrangements with the airlines so they are prepared to bring their new baby onto the plane.
AT WHAT AGE TO THE PUPPIES GO TO THEIR FOREVER HOMES?
Ten weeks. We want our puppies to receive proper training from their mother, littermates, and pack. They will receive their six and nine week vaccinations, be dewormed and microchipped. This also allows more socialization with adults and children.
DO YOU HAVE A WAITING LIST?

ARE DACHSHUNDS GOOD WITH CHILDREN?
Dachshunds are great with children! Our dogs are raised in a home with four children, one of whom has special needs. Proper training should be continued by the buyer. Constantly socialize these little hams and they will love you forever!
DO YOU HAVE A CONTRACT?
Yes. After our Facetime interview process that is used to vet families. If the family is the right fit, we will email the buyer the contract. Buyer will print/save the contract, fill it out, scan and email the signed contract back to White River Valley Kennel. Once the contract and deposit is received by White River Valley Kennel the puppy is officially held for that family.
DO YOU REQUIRE SPAY/NEUTER?
No. All of our dachshunds are sold with full rights. It is your choice if you spay or neuter your pet but I ask that you don’t do it before two years of age unless you only use OSS or Vasectomies as your method.
Cons to spaying and neutering with the traditional method: Due to the lack of regulating hormones your pet will struggle with obesity, which will lead to back issues from the extra weight. Spaying and neutering your pet (especially before 6 months of age) will drastically increase the risk of your pet developing IVDD. Your pet will lose muscle mass/ tone which are important in supporting a long back and holding it in the correct position. Can cause joints and bones to grow incorrectly causing joint pain if its done before the growth plates close. Coats will change; becoming dull, dry and lifeless. Your dachshund’s personality may change to become more shy, anxious, fearful and aggressive. Increases the risk of hypothyroidism and increases the risk of hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma and mast cell tumors. (Cancers)
Alternative to the traditional Spay and Neuter: Please look into Ovary Sparing Spays and vasectomies. This will leave your pet partially intact and allows them to have regulating hormones without the worry of unwanted pregnancy. Traditional method causes more harm than good in dachshunds. ALWAYS wait until after 2 yrs of age to alter your dachshund.
DO YOU REHOME RETIRED BREEDERS?
Our dams stay with us after retirement. We do rehome our Sires after they retire.
DO YOU ACCEPT PAST DOGS BACK?
Of course. If the buyer at any point feels they can no longer care for the dog, they are always welcomed back. No ifs and or buts. White River Valley Kennel is a family program and they will always be welcomed and have a home here.
